As miles and years shadow the memory
and precious times put to rest again
are carelessly marked "Rest in Pieces."
Will you remember the shattered remains
clumsily toppled
to the floor below?
The fragments of a former self
resting now as jagged shards
of colorless glass
carefully collected,
and tucked away as faded memory.
Will you remember the shattered remains
Of the porcelain vase, unremarkable
in its comfort, yet beautiful
for the bounty it lovingly
sought to cradle long,
asking only to dream the dream
that dangles upon the edge
where reality once had made play.
Will you remember the shattered remains,
Carelessly marked "Rest in Pieces,"
as miles and years shadow the memory
and precious times are put to rest again.
